Experience Summary
David has over 35 years experience studying and writing about the flora
and fauna of Ontario. For 10 years he was a botany Research Technician
at the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa. During the last 25 years,
David has been a private consultant to a broad range of government,
academic, corporate, and private clients. His knowledge and skills
include:
- comprehensive knowledge of the flora and fauna of
Ontario
- extensive field experience evaluating and ranking
natural areas and rare species across Ontario
- frequent collaboration with specialists
- recognized as an expert witness by the Ontario
Municipal Board
- cartographic drafting
- air-photo interpretation
Rare Plant Studies and Status
Reports
- prepared three Status Reports and authored or co-authored
over 20
Update Status Reports for the Committee on the Status of Endangered
Wildlife in
Canada
- co-author of the Atlas of the Rare Vascular Plants
of Ontario
- conducted detailed quantitative analysis on rare
plants
Natural Area Evaluation and Life
Science Inventories
- conducted many detailed biological inventories and
evaluations of parks, wetlands, and conservation areas
- undertook major studies to evaluate broad
landscape-scale features
- developed criteria to evaluate natural areas
- performed detailed quantitative analysis on
wetlands and forest stands
Impact Studies and Habitat
Restoration
- undertook numerous environmental impact assessments
for a wide range of development projects
- initiated habitat rehabilitation measures for
impacted wetlands and threatened species
- developed mitigation methods to protect sensitive
habitats and rare species
